Hailing from the big city lights of New York, New York, Ron Lombardo has been entertaining audiences most of his life. Moving to a warmer climate, this snowbird started performing his shows more than two decades ago here in Vero Beach becoming a household name among our Treasure Coast towns. Not even a hip replacement in 2018 could keep him from doing what he loved most.
Ron smiled, “In my greatest need, VNA was there for me.”
Amid a busy home health care schedule with physical therapy, wound care and regular nurse visits, he found time to rehearse his repertoire and play his favorite musical instruments: piano, saxophone and guitar. In no time, he was back on the stage performing until a serious car accident last year landed him back in the hospital. When the doctor referred him for home health care, he insisted on VNA.
Ron explained, “They tried to tell me my insurance wouldn’t cover VNA. I told them I wouldn’t have anyone else take care of me. I knew with VNA that I was in excellent hands. Everyone is so kind and professional. The care is exceptional.”
Fast forward a year. It’s been a long and arduous recovery. Though Ron finds himself using a wheelchair and he’s winded easily, it hasn’t taken away his love for music nor his love for performing. He’s just become more innovative, “I have a little more help these days setting up and breaking down when I entertain. I just give myself more time to get from here to there. You know what they say, ‘The show must go on!’”
Ron will be the first to tell you though difficult, his story isn’t tragic. It’s about a man, his music and how healing takes place with expert care, commitment and love. He says it best, “With VNA you’re in great hands. When I’m in need of home health care, the first people I turn to is VNA.”
