For several weeks, William Borrow, 87, has been receiving VNA telehealth services, which allows patients to monitor their health from home utilizing easy-to-use technology. This technology relays the patient’s health information to a clinician’s office, and if there’s anything “off,” the appropriate health care workers will be alerted.

William has found great comfort in the steady care that telehealth provides for him, knowing that if any of his vitals are awry, the appropriate health care person knows immediately and responds appropriately. “I check my vitals every day, and I send it to them (via the telehealth machine), and they send it to my doctor and nurses, who have been so astute, kind and wonderful. They are all just excellent,” said Borrow.

And as a person with other longstanding health issues, he particularly appreciates the ease of telehealth. “It’s so hard to get in touch with a doctor’s office, and you have to leave messages, but with the VNA you have a direct line. My nurse, Stephanie, has been wonderful. I speak to her quite often on the phone. She watches my blood pressure from afar every morning,” he said.

What he also likes about telehealth is how it has helped his wife. “She loves it because it gives her peace of mind knowing people are on top of my health,” he said. “The whole thing has been such a godsend; I don’t know how I could ever get along without it. All the nurses should be commended because they’re so wonderful and caring and knowledgeable, like one VNA nurse, Meghan, was amazingly astute about blood pressure and everything like that. And last night, we had a mix-up about things, but she helped us out, so I just cannot highly recommend them enough – and I’ve had MS for almost 50 years, so I have a lot of knowledge dealing with doctors and complexities and mistakes, and the VNA just helped alleviate that so much.”
