VNA patient Eliza Jimenez broke her leg and ended up in the emergency room. The ER doctor put a cast on her leg, and when she went to have the cast removed, the doctor recommended she receive physical therapy, and she opted for the Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) of the Treasure Coast. As soon as Eliza arrived home, someone from the VNA got in touch with her. By the end of the day, she knew that a nurse would be out that same week to begin her PT. “It gave me great peace of mind,” she said.
Eliza received physical therapy for four weeks. Her PT was focused on exercises that addressed muscle stiffness and even some muscle atrophy that occurred from being less active while her leg was in a cast. “They took great care of me and were very respectful,” said Eliza, who really appreciated the warmth as well as the expertise of the two physical therapists who worked with her.
Eliza, who had no health insurance, received this care through the VNA & Hospice Foundation’s Charitable Care Program. “I am so very grateful for the VNA’s generosity,” said Eliza, who ended up getting VNA help for another health issue as well.
