Think globally, act locally – that’s a core message of Giving Tuesday, a global movement that “reimagines a world built upon shared humanity and generosity.” Some think that Giving Tuesday is explicitly about donating money. It isn’t – it’s so much more. It’s about investing in your community, one person at a time. It’s about caring for your fellow man, even a stranger. It’s about being charitable, and as many a wise person has said, charity starts at home: Do you have a parent, daughter, sister or son who could really benefit from some one-on-one time? Often, the best thing you can give someone is your time; we know it’s precious.
You can also give by volunteering. At the Visiting Nurse Association (VNA), we are so incredibly grateful to our volunteers, who are at the heart of our organization and a key resource. More than 400 of these dedicated individuals generously donate their time and talent to assist in various ways. Whether it is interacting with patients, being an extra hand in the VNA Hospice House, providing assistance around the office, or providing support in our VNA Hidden Treasures Thrift Store, volunteers can be found in all aspects of our organization.
And finally, Giving Tuesday is about donating funds to a good cause, if you have the means to do so. We know you appreciate this, and we encourage you to contribute to your favorite charity. If you choose the VNA & Hospice Foundation, we thank you immensely. It is because of generous people like you that we are able to offer such a robust number of health care services that help people in our community, particularly those without the financial means to do so themselves – because everyone deserves quality care.
